Before Apple yanked 'Fortnite' from the App Store, Epic asked Apple to put its own digital game store on iPhones and iPads

Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney asked Tim Cook to publish a "competing Epic Games Store app available through the iOS App Store." Apple declined.
