Full Trailer for Stylish Assassin Thriller 'Terminal' with Margot Robbie
"Follow me down the rabbit hole…!" RLJE Film has released the full-length trailer for a very twisted, crazy cool, super stylish new assassins film called Terminal, formerly known as End of the Line in production. We previewed a teaser last week, but this full trailer is a must see, this looks unlike anything else this year. The film is the feature debut of director Vaughn Stein, and it stars Margot Robbie, as well as Simon Pegg, Mike Myers, Max Irons, and Dexter Fletcher. I can't really paraphrase this since it's just perfect, so here's the plot straight up: "Terminal follows two assassins with a sinister mission, a fatally ill teacher, an enigmatic janitor and a waitress with a double life. Murderous consequences unravel as their lives meet at the hands of a criminal mastermind wanting revenge." Damn this looks like a cinematic delight. See below.
Here's the new full-length trailer (+ poster) for Vaughn Stein's Terminal, direct from RLJE's YouTube:
You can still watch the short teaser trailer for Stein's Terminal here, to see a different introduction to this.
In the dark heart of a sprawling, anonymous city, Terminal follows the twisting tales of two assassins carrying out a sinister mission, a teacher battling a fatal illness, an enigmatic janitor and a curious waitress leading a dangerous double life. Murderous consequences unravel in the dead of night as their lives all intertwine at the hands of a mysterious criminal mastermind hell-bent on revenge. Terminal is both written and directed by filmmaker Vaughn Stein, making his feature directorial debut after working for over a decade as an assistant director in Hollywood. The film has not premiered at any film festivals yet. RLJE will release Stein's Terminal in select theaters starting May 11th this summer. Who's down for this?

Ethan Hawke in First Trailer for A24's Religious Drama 'First Reformed'
"It's been a while since we've talked. Even a pastor needs a pastor." A24 has debuted the first official trailer for the indie drama First Reformed, which premiered at the Venice / Telluride / Toronto trifecta of film festivals last fall. And you need to see this trailer. First Reformed stars Ethan Hawke as a middle-aged parish pastor at a small Dutch Reform church in upstate New York, dealing with a spiritual identity crisis. The film's cast includes Amanda Seyfried, Michael Gaston, Cedric the Entertainer, Van Hansis, Philip Ettinge, Victoria Hill, and Satchel Eden Bell. Described as a "a gripping thriller about a crisis of faith that is at once personal, political, and planetary." This had some mixed reviews coming out of the festivals last fall, but it looks darn good from this fine trailer here. I mean really: Hawke at his best, amazing cinematography, just the right amount of melodramatic spunk. I need to see this - what an excellent trailer.
Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Paul Schrader's First Reformed, from A24's YouTube:
Reverend Ernst Toller (Hawke) is a solitary, middle-aged parish pastor at a small Dutch Reform church in upstate New York on the cusp of celebrating its 250th anniversary. Once a stop on the Underground Railroad, the church is now a tourist attraction catering to a dwindling congregation, eclipsed by its nearby parent church, Abundant Life, with its state-of-the-art facilities and 5,000-strong flock. When a pregnant parishioner (Seyfried) asks Reverend Toller to counsel her husband, a radical environmentalist, the clergyman finds himself plunged into his own tormented past, and equally despairing future, until he finds redemption in an act of grandiose violence. First Reformed is both written and directed by veteran American filmmaker Paul Schrader, director of films including Blue Collar, Hardcore, American Gigolo, Cat People, Light of Day, The Comfort of Strangers, Light Sleeper, Forever Mine, Auto Focus, Dominion: Prequel to the Exorcist, The Walker, Adam Resurrected, The Canyons, The Dying of the Light, and Dog Eat Dog previously. This first premiered at the Venice, Telluride, Toronto and New York Film Festivals last year. A24 will release Schrader's First Reformed in select theaters starting on May 18th this summer. Thoughts?

Christopher Nolan Presenting a New 70mm Print of '2001' at Cannes
50 years ago, one movie changed all movies forever. The first movie premiering at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival has been revealed! Cannes has announced they will host the world premiere of an unseen, newly restored 70mm print of Stanley Kubrick’s groundbreaking science fiction epic, 2001: A Space Odyssey. The screening will be introduced by filmmaker Christopher Nolan, who will be attending the Festival de Cannes for the first time. Nolan will also participate in a Cannes Masterclass, set for Sunday, May 13th, in which he'll discuss Kubrick's films in addition to his own. After this event, Warner Bros will re-release the new 70mm print of 2001: A Space Odyssey in select US theatres starting on May 18th. The Ultimate Trip.
This is very exciting news because it's already confirmed for a theatrical release right after the festival! "For the first time since the original release, this 70mm print was struck from new printing elements made from the original camera negative. This is a true photochemical film recreation. There are no digital tricks, remastered effects, or revisionist edits. The original version will be presented to recreate the cinematic event audiences experienced 50 years ago. A longtime admirer of the late American auteur, Nolan worked closely with the team at Warner Bros Pictures throughout the mastering process." The premiere screening will take place on Saturday, May 12th. Click the image below for a full press release from the Cannes Film Festival:
Christopher Nolan's statement: "One of my earliest memories of cinema is seeing Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, in 70mm, at the Leicester Square Theatre in London with my father. The opportunity to be involved in recreating that experience for a new generation, and of introducing our new unrestored 70mm print of Kubrick’s masterpiece in all its analogue glory at the Festival de Cannes is an honour and a privilege." Thierry Frémaux's statement: "Stanley Kubrick in the Official Selection! It is a great honour for the Festival de Cannes to host the 50th anniversary celebration of one of the most extraordinary films in the history of cinema. And to welcome to the Festival for the first time Christopher Nolan, whose presence creates a precious bond between past and present, without which cinema would have no history." Indeed.
So far, so good, Cannes. Let's see what else you've got up your sleeve for 2018. Originally released in 70mm Cinerama roadshow format on April 3rd, 1968, "the film ignited the imaginations of critics and audiences alike and its impact continues to resonate to this day." 2001 has already been showing in 70mm at places like the Museum of the Moving Image in NYC. But this is a brand new, fresh 70mm print and it should look better than ever. Kubrick's 2001 starred Keir Dullea, Gary Lockwood, William Sylvester, Daniel Richter, Leonard Rossiter, Margaret Tyzack, Robert Beatty, Sean Sullivan, and Douglas Rain as the voice of HAL 9000. It received four Oscar nominations, including Best Director, but only won Best Special Visual Effects.
