Russo Brothers Strike Deal with Amazon for New Series

The extremely popular directing duo, Joe and Anthony Russo, have come to an agreement with Amazon Prime to bring an “ambitious concept” to the streaming service. Amazon announced during their TCA on Saturday that they have teamed up with the Russo brothers on a global event series that is meant to “redefine the boundaries of storytelling.”

Under the deal with Amazon, the Russos will have complete creative freedom to oversee the new project; however, Amazon did not reveal any more details about the new series.

“The Russo Brothers have impacted the pop culture barometer of creative excellence with their vision for both Avengers: Infinity War and Captain America: Civil War,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “They brought a level of scale and execution to those films that has raised the bar for audiences everywhere and we can’t wait for them to do the same for us on this project for our Amazon Prime Customer. We are thrilled to be working with Joe and Anthony Russo and their AGBO Studios as they build this incredible, multifaceted, international franchise.”

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos reportedly wants to find a Game of Thrones-like series that changes the landscape of television and this deal with the Russo brothers is hoping to do that.

The Russo directed Avengers: Infinity War will be released on digital July 31 and on blu-ray on August 14.

Mark Hamill Talks Carrie Fisher’s Appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX

Mark Hamill talks Carrie Fisher’s appearance in Star Wars: Episode IX

Last week Walt Disney Pictures and Lucasfilm announced the official Star Wars: Episode IX cast, which will include the late Carrie Fisher returning via previously shot footage. Now her longtime Star Wars co-star Mark Hamill has chimed in about his feelings on Carrie Fisher’s appearance in the forthcoming film.

Returning cast members include Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo, and Billie Lourd. Joining the cast of Episode IX are Naomi Ackie (Doctor Who), Richard E. Grant (Gosford Park, Hudson Hawk) and Keri Russell (The Americans), who will be joined by veteran Star Wars actors Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, and Billy Dee Williams, who will reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.

The role of Leia Organa will once again be played by Carrie Fisher, using previously unreleased footage shot for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

“We desperately loved Carrie Fisher,” says director J.J. Abrams. “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us. We were never going to recast, or use a CG character. With the support and blessing from her daughter, Billie, we have found a way to honor Carrie’s legacy and role as Leia in Episode IX by using unseen footage we shot together in Episode VII.”

Star Wars: Episode IX will begin filming at London’s Pinewood Studios on August 1 with returning to direct the final installment of the Skywalker saga. Abrams co-wrote the screenplay with Chris Terrio (Argo, Justice League).

Composer John Williams, who has scored every chapter in the Star Wars saga since 1977’s A New Hope, will return to a galaxy far, far away with Episode IX.

Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, J.J. Abrams, and Michelle Rejwan, and executive produced by Callum Greene and Jason McGatlin. The crew includes Dan Mindel (Director of Photography), Rick Carter and Kevin Jenkins (Co-Production Designers), Michael Kaplan (Costume Designer), Neal Scanlan (Creature and Droid FX), Maryann Brandon and Stefan Grube (Editors), Roger Guyett (VFX Supervisor), Tommy Gormley (1st AD), and Victoria Mahoney (2nd Unit Director).

The film is scheduled for release in December 2019.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Premiere Date Set for October!

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Premiere Date Set for October!

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina premiere date set for October

Straight from their TCA presentation, Netflix has revealed the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina premiere date, confirming the series will debut its first season on October 26.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is based on the comic book of the same name, which reimagines the origin and adventures of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age story that traffics in horror, the occult and, of course, witchcraft. Tonally in the vein of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, this adaptation finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature — half-witch, half-mortal — while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.

Kiernan Shipka stars as Sabrina in the new series and is joined by Lucy Davis, Miranda Otto, Chance Perdomo, Michelle Gomez, Jaz Sinclair, Richard Coyle, Ross Lynch, and Bronson Pinchot in the cast.

Now that the two shows are on different networks, It remains to be seen if there will be any formal association between Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. The comic book series features brief appearances by Archie characters like Betty and Veronica, but it is primarily a self-contained narrative.

Aguirre-Sacasa is writing the adaptation (the comic book basis for which he also wrote) and will executive produce. Lee Toland Krieger will direct and executive produce with Aguirre-Sacasa, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Jon Goldwater. Although there is no premiere date yet for the series, the series has already been given a two season order at Netflix.
